AI Agents and Coding Practice in Singapore

AI coding agents are moving from novelty to normal workflow. 1. Solve a small version manually before asking an agent for help.
2. Write expected inputs, outputs and edge cases.
3. Ask the tool to explain tradeoffs, not only produce code.
4. Run the code locally and save error messages.
5. Review dependencies, environment variables and file paths.
6. Remove secrets, tokens and student identifiers before sharing.
7. Write a README that explains your final design.

That pattern keeps AI useful without letting it replace your reasoning.

Common mistakes students make

The biggest risk is copy-pasting working code that the student cannot repair. That creates problems during demos, oral questions, follow-up tasks and debugging sessions. A second risk is invisible security exposure: API keys, database strings, private datasets or school credentials can slip into notebooks and repositories.
