Is Assignment Help Legit? A 5-Minute Check
Verify any Singapore assignment-help provider in five minutes using identity, policy, payment, scope, privacy, review, and integrity checks.
You do not need to solve the internet before buying tutoring, editing or assignment support. You need five focused minutes to check identity, scope, terms, payment protection and evidence. This checklist works for ACE Essay Service, Codingo and any other provider. It does not pre-judge a brand; it tests what can be verified today.
Editorial and evidence note — 14 July 2026: Links and platform terms were checked on this date. Business status, listings, reviews, refund windows and service terms can change, so repeat the checks immediately before paying. An ACRA record, marketplace badge or award is one data point, not a guarantee of academic quality or a university endorsement.
0:00–1:00 — Verify who you are dealing with
Ask for the provider's full business name and UEN, then use ACRA's Bizfile search guidance. ACRA says the entity search can show basic information such as live status and registered address. Make sure the name on the quote, invoice, payment request and privacy page is consistent with the record.
A live registration helps answer “Does this entity appear in Singapore's official register?” It does not answer “Will this tutor understand my module?” or “Is every marketing claim accurate?” Conversely, a freelancer's lack of company registration does not by itself prove wrongdoing. It simply changes the information and recourse available to you.
Record three items: legal name, UEN or stated trading identity, and a stable contact channel. If they do not match, pause and ask why.
1:00–2:00 — Test the academic-integrity boundary
Send one direct question: “What exactly will you do, and what must I do myself?” A clear provider should be able to distinguish tutoring, feedback and editing from completing assessed work for submission.
NTU's published academic-integrity guidance defines contract cheating as getting academic work completed on a student's behalf, usually for a fee, and submitting it as the student's own. The central NUS Code of Student Conduct sets expectations for academic, professional and personal integrity. Your course may also limit AI assistance, proofreading, collaboration, code reuse or translation.
A useful service description says what feedback you will receive, what source materials will be used, whether examples are for learning, and how you remain the author. Be cautious if the central pitch is secrecy, impersonation, “undetectable” work, fabricated process records or a finished assessment you are expected to present as entirely your own.
2:00–3:00 — Read the quote and remedy as a mini-contract
Do not accept “essay help” as the whole scope. Put the essentials in writing:
- deliverable type and file format;
- topic, word count or technical requirements;
- milestone and final dates, including time zone;
- number and scope of revisions;
- sources, citation style or coding environment;
- price, payment schedule and taxes or fees;
- cancellation, refund and dispute conditions;
- what happens when the brief changes.
Ask what counts as a completed milestone and what evidence is needed for a revision. A precise modest commitment is more useful than a sweeping outcome promise. A pass or grade depends on the student's final submission, the assessment rubric and the institution; no service controls all three. Our separate guide explains how to read 100% pass and 200% refund language.
3:00–4:00 — Check payment protection and data handling
If the transaction happens on Carousell, do not assume every chat or payment receives the same protection. Carousell's Singapore Buyer Protection page says protection applies to eligible listings paid through the Buy button using supported methods. Its coverage page, checked 14 July 2026, expressly lists Services, including customisable products described as services with tangible outcomes, among excluded items. It also says partial or full payments made outside the platform, including direct bank transfer, cash or PayNow outside the app, are not covered. An assignment-support order should therefore not be assumed eligible merely because the conversation occurred on Carousell.
Carousell's safe-dealing guidance recommends keeping an agreement in chat and, where available, using platform payment. If a service uses another channel, ask for an invoice and written terms before transferring money. Preserve the quote and payment record.
Then minimise data. An assignment brief can contain your full name, student number, lecturer details, private class links or unpublished research. Redact what the provider does not need. The PDPC overview for individuals says organisations generally should tell individuals why personal data is collected, used or disclosed. Look for a privacy notice and a data-protection contact; do not send login credentials.
4:00–5:00 — Verify reviews, samples and award claims
Reviews are most useful when they describe a specific service, date and outcome within the reviewer's knowledge. Check the full distribution, not only the average. Look for how the provider responds to detailed criticism. Do not assume that an anonymous review proves identity, and do not assume that a high count proves compliance with your university's rules.
For samples, check whether references exist, quotations match their sources, calculations can be reproduced and code can be explained. A similarity percentage or AI-detector score is not a complete quality test. Ask the provider to explain one substantive choice; competent support should make the reasoning clearer.
If a seller displays a marketplace award, verify the exact account, year and category against an official list. Carousell's 2025 Merchant Awards page publishes named merchants and describes the programme in terms of quality, reliability, value, marketplace performance and customer trust. Such an award can evidence recognition under that programme. It does not certify every later transaction, academic correctness or university approval.
The ten-point screenshot checklist
Give one point for each “yes”. Save the evidence, not just the score.
- The legal or trading identity is stated clearly.
- The payment recipient matches the stated identity or has a sensible documented explanation.
- The provider defines an ethical scope that fits your module rules.
- The deliverable, deadline and price are written down.
- Revision, cancellation and refund conditions are readable before payment.
- The payment route and any platform protection are confirmed for this transaction.
- The provider asks only for data reasonably needed to help.
- Samples contain traceable sources or explainable technical work.
- Reviews or awards can be opened at their original source.
- The provider answers a concrete quality question without relying on a grade promise.
A low score means you lack information; it is not a finding that the provider is dishonest. Pause, ask for the missing records and compare alternatives. A high score supports due diligence but still cannot guarantee a grade.
Three questions that expose ambiguity quickly
First, ask: “Can you show me the clause that defines a revision and a refund?” Second: “How will this support keep me as the author?” Third: “What personal information can I remove before sharing the brief?” Evasive answers matter more than glossy slogans.
Use the same standard consistently. Our evidence review of ACE Essay Service and Reddit claims shows why online attribution needs proof, while the ACE “0% AI” and Turnitin review shows why a technical report must be interpreted within its published limitations. If you are already holding a weak deliverable, move to the poor assignment-help recovery plan. For institution-first guidance, start at the Academic Integrity Resource Hub.
Frequently asked questions
Does an ACRA registration prove an assignment-help service is good?
No. It verifies registry information such as status and address. Quality, scope, qualifications and compliance need separate checks.
Is a Carousell transaction automatically covered by Buyer Protection?
No. Carousell's coverage page, checked 14 July 2026, excludes Services, including customisable products described as services with tangible outcomes. It also excludes partial or full payment outside the platform. Check the live policy, but do not treat an assignment-support service or direct transfer as covered.
Does a marketplace award prove academic quality?
No. Verify the award first, then read its published criteria. Marketplace recognition may concern listings, reviews, responsiveness, business performance or brand story; it is not a university assessment.
What documents should I never send?
Do not send student-portal passwords, email passwords, one-time codes or identity documents unless there is a separate legitimate need you understand. Redact student numbers, private links and unrelated personal information from briefs.
Can a provider guarantee my grade?
A provider can promise a defined service action, such as a feedback session by a stated time. It cannot control your final work, marker or institutional decision, so treat grade guarantees as contractual marketing to analyse rather than academic assurance.
Should I reject every service with a negative review?
Not automatically. Assess the detail, provenance, date, response and broader pattern. Equally, do not accept positive reviews without scrutiny.
A restrained Codingo option
If Codingo is on your shortlist, apply all ten checks to it as well. Send only a redacted brief and your current attempt through the contact page, and ask for the proposed scope in writing before paying. Codingo's published Refund Policy says grades are not guaranteed, describes supplied material as draft samples or reference points, and says customers should review, adapt and use it responsibly.
